Color and Weave with Natural Dyes

Computer-Assisted Textile Design

The following designs are inspired by colorful watercolor paintings and the new relationship with nature that many of us have developed over the course of the pandemic. Patterns are formed using motifs from my hand-painted India ink sketches, and all colors are directly sourced from cotton fibers colored with natural dyes, with the aid of a spectrophotometer.

Weaving and Dyeing with natural indigo:

Bailey is still teaching workshops — Now they can be virtual!

The NC State Crafts Center had its first round of online workshops, including Bailey’s Natural Indigo Dye and Shibori Workshop. Students picked up packets from the Crafts Center a week in advance, and had everything they needed while Bailey talked them through making an indigo vat at home… and using it, too!

Times during the pandemic aren’t easy. Don’t BE blue… dye something blue!

Thanks to the NC State Crafts Center to make this possible:
